Chapter Nine
If anyone had needed to give Prudence what she really wanted for Christmas, they could have come up with no better gift than this moment.
She settled on his lap as if it had been made for her and wound her arms around his neck, knowing that was where they belonged. It felt comfortable, right and she trembled a little at the warmth of his palm on her leg.
âYouâve skin of silk, mo chroÃ,â he whispered, his fingers stroking their way to the top of her stocking and touching her bare flesh. âSo soft.â
She closed her eyes for a moment. âI like your touch,â she whispered back, knowing it was brazen, but also knowing she could not be anything less than honest with him.
She felt more than heard his groan, and then his lips were on hers as he rubbed small circles on her flesh. The kiss was heated, passionate, inciting a response from her that met and surpassed it. She opened her mouth and touched his tongue with hers, welcoming it, eagerly duelling with it, revelling in the taste of him, peach mixed with Ronanâs unique flavour.
âI could kiss you for hours,â he breathed as he pulled back a little. âSo sweet, soâ¦Prudence.â
She couldnât help a smile as she opened her eyes. âTell me, Ronan. What do I taste of?â
His hand moved upward, and she sucked in a breath at the feel of a manâs palm on her thigh.
âThat, love. You taste of that. Flowers, innocence and yetââ
He took her mouth again, and she moaned, a deep purr from the back of her throat. She was hungry for him and wondered if sheâd ever have enough of him to be sated.
âYes,â he sighed against her lips. âThat fire. Itâs beginning to burnâ¦â
Her hands wandered over his shoulders to his chest. âAnd you are lighting the flame, mo chroÃâ¦â Tentatively she tried out the words, intense ones, but feeling this was the moment to call him my love.
âPrudence,â he whispered, his gaze fixed on her face. âYou cannot know what you do to me.â His hand flexed high on her thigh.
She shuddered, a strange sensation blooming within her. She parted her legs as if in answer to some silent need. âThen show me, Ronan. I want you to show me.â
âAre you sure, sweetheart?â
âOnly you.â She dug her fingers into the front of his shirt, managing to slip their tips between his buttons and touch his flesh. Soft hairs and heat met them, and the firmness of his muscles lying beneath.
âOhhh,â she breathed. âI wishâ¦â
âNot here, Prudence, not now. Let me pleasure you, for that we can do.â
âBut soon, Ronan,â she found his gaze and held it. âSoon. Promise me.â
He was silent for a moment. âLetâs see if you like this before we make promises to each other. We want, at this moment. We want the same thing. But youâve no clue of the seriousness of it, whereas I know that once we take that stepâ¦Iâm lost forever.â
Prudence reached for his face and cupped a hand around his cheek.
